Hello to All of Gabriela’s Friends!

My name is Tracey and I’ve known Gabriela for over 15 years. I helped create her blog Gabriela's Daily Quotes & Poems and now this one too.

Camden another good friend of Gabriela's and I put our heads together after hearing about her present predicament. We insisted that she let her friends help her out during this difficult time.

Gabriela has helped me in so many ways over the years. Like the time my back was out and she would drive from her home in Lakeway to my home on the outskirts of south Austin, to take me to the chiropractor three times a week! Or the time when I was crazy busy at work and she made me lunch every day. When I moved back to Austin she brought me a care package of food. Gabriela has supported me through the many changes in my life, always encouraging the choices I make with lots of love. Best of all she has been that friend who brightened my day, always cheerful and light doing anything she can to lift the spirits of everyone around her.

I want to help! And you might too. So I started this blog with Camden's help and after much cajoling we got Gabriela’s reluctant agreement too!

Camden has some great things to say about what is behind this blog too:

Does anyone know what it's like to not have a car to get through your day?

How about for almost a year?

Several of Gabriela's friends have banded together, because we KNOW she won't tell a soul that she could really use the help right now. She's been doing all of the amazing things she does every day without wheels!

We (her friends) have decided that it's time to change all of that...and we need your help.

When I found out that Gabriela has been working the schedule she works, taking care of 4 dogs and doing everything else she juggles daily without a vehicle, I couldn't believe it!

As many of you already know, Gabriela is a really special soul and would never ask anyone for help, yet she is always the first to put her heart out to help another. I don't see her often. We mostly stay in touch by email, but every time I do, she greets me with a huge smile and showers me with anything she has on hand. I've never heard her say a negative thing.

The last time I came by to see her, we started talking in fragments...our usual way of connecting while she's working hard. She's a very private person, but I do know that she's had some personal difficulties over the past couple of years. During our conversation, I found out that she hasn't had a vehicle for almost a year and has been taking cabs to work when she is unable to work out transportation.

To make a long story short, Gabriela has been without transportation for over 9 months now. She's worked out carpooling, taken taxis, and all kinds of other creative means.

To make this easy, to help her out as soon as possible, we've created this blog where all of us who know her, adore her and want to help her out can make a donation.

Please donate what you can to help Gabriela get back on the Road to Freedom!

Because events of the last 2 years have taken some harsh twists and turns, Gabriela has fallen into a financial situation she is having a hard time resolving. As I’m sure most of you know Gabriela is a really hard working, determined person. But we all need help sometimes getting on our feet. Taking a taxi to work every day is only digging the hole deeper and I’m hoping we can help Gabriela get on higher ground!

Lately I have heard more and more about people, friends, communities banding together to help their friends and loved ones get through financial and personal crises. With this terrible economy many of us do not have the access to loans and credit the way we once would have. As a group it’s much easier to help each other than to do it individually. That’s why we’ve come up with this idea and blog.

We are suggesting that you donate to a fund for Gabriela we are calling: The Road to Freedom: 620 to 71. Whatever you can donate, even if it’s $5, it will be a big help when we all do this together!

Below is the address for the PO Box you can send your gift to. You can send a check or a money order if you want to make your gift anonymous.

Thank you!
